Guardian Angel

The Blue Angel monument in the castle grounds presents a powerful image of a protector - an angel stands above a small girl, shielding her with its wings and arms. In my artwork, I supplemented the image of the angel and the girl with imagery from psalm 91, which makes direct reference to the idea of the guardian angel

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.

The nearby lion statues (just across the lawn from the castle) gave me an opportunity to include another Dean Park fixture; the lion (and cobra) is referenced as the psalm offers words of encouragement: You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
